Then why do you still wear that thing?

...because I made him promises. Even if I don't feel like that, even if the extent of those feelings weren't me, I still made promises to Mithos. I still feel like I should keep those promises, because even if I'm not... in love with him, it doesn't mean I wouldn't try to understand him anyway.

...let me ask you this. Did he make you any promises? [he's not sure why he's even asking, anyone who makes promises to someone they'll probably forget about if they ever leave here is a weak idiot, right?]

...he promised he'd be there for me, too. [But he can understand why Mithos would break that promise, now that he knows a little more about the other boy's history. He can't bring himself to blame him.]

Well, I don't see him anywhere.

It isn't that simple! It's not my place to say what happened, but he's gone through a lot. I can't blame him for not being able to trust me after everything went back to normal. [Not with how much of a mess everything was. Not with how much blame Jeb himself felt--still feels--over all of it.] Not everyone is like me. Not everyone can continue to try to trust other people after they've been hurt... but that doesn't make their feelings any less valid!

I meant in general! Even as a friend, he obviously can't be trusted and he just ended up hurting you!

I think he only hurt me because he doesn't want to risk getting hurt himself. That week, he didn't really talk a lot to anyone outside of me that I know of. [Except Martel, but Jeb doesn't feel right bringing her up to Silver.] It's not just me, Silver. It's everyone. And it's for something he never chose.

That's still no excuse! Being a jerk to other people just because you're afraid of getting hurt is a sure sign of weakness! [he's certainly not projecting, no]

It's not weak! Besides, I'd rather him hurt me out of fear of being hurt than hurt me out of enjoying it! Wouldn't that make him worse? [He's getting really upset, and he wishes Silver would back down.]
